What's new in Tube Player
Versions from the most recent. The same notes are in the program, in Help.
Version 1.3.0, November 1, 2026
New
- Tube Player is more careful with YouTube, so that it is not mistaken for an automated program: when downloading a playlist, a channel or several videos one after another, there is a 10-20 second pause before each video (the row says "pause before the next video"); after 100 videos in the same day the pauses become 30-60 seconds. A single download starts right away as before.
- If YouTube asks you to confirm that you are not an automated program ("not a bot"), a clear message explains it and Tube Player stops insisting: no more attempts, no preparation in advance for half an hour, and queued downloads wait (Retry starts them again right away).
- Preparing videos in advance makes at most three requests at a time, and the default is now "First five" (whoever had "First ten" gets it changed once; it can be set again in the Settings).
Version 1.2.9, October 31, 2026
New
- The new videos from followed channels (Ctrl+U) are redone: instead of all videos mixed together, there are folders for the channels that have new videos, for example "Barba Scura: 2 new", and "All channels" at the top. Enter opens a folder and shows only the new videos of that channel.
- A video becomes watched when you open it, or when you mark it with Ctrl+Shift+U or from the context menu ("Mark as watched"; on a folder "Mark all as watched"). The same command marks it as not watched again. The next time you open the new videos, the watched ones are gone.
- In the new videos, with Tab after the list, the Sort box: folders by most recent video, by channel name or most new videos first; videos newest first or oldest first.
Version 1.2.8, October 31, 2026
Fixes
- On some computers videos did not start, with the error "vulkan-1.dll is missing": it is a file usually installed by the graphics card driver. Now it is included in Tube Player, next to the player, so videos start even if the driver did not install it.
Version 1.2.7, October 31, 2026
New
- Import data without losing anything: File, Import data compares the file with the data on this computer and asks, for followed channels, collections and history, whether to add what is missing, make it the same as the file or leave it as it is, and whether to use the settings in the file. Useful to use Tube Player on two computers.
- In the Import data window, the Details buttons show the differences one by one: you check only the ones to do. After merging, Tube Player offers to export the data right away for the other computer.
- Age-restricted videos: YouTube shows them only after signing in with an account, and Tube Player does not use accounts. Now a clear message explains it and offers to open the video in the browser.
- Help menu: Join L'angolo di HDX on Telegram, the group of all the programs.
- The player (mpv) is included in the program, in a version tested with Tube Player: it is no longer downloaded at the first start and it changes only with Tube Player updates. For this reason the update is bigger than usual (about 48 MB).
- FFmpeg, needed for downloads, updates by itself once a week: the new version is tested before being used and the previous one is kept aside.
Version 1.2.6, October 30, 2026
New
- Subtitles read while the video plays: with Ctrl+Shift+L (or the "Read the subtitles" check box in the player) the screen reader reads each sentence when it is spoken. Useful above all with videos in another language. The choice stays for the following videos.
- Related videos: Ctrl+Shift+R (Go menu) opens the videos similar to the chosen one, or to the one you are listening to, like the column next to the video on YouTube. Backspace goes back to the previous list.
- Full screen: F11 puts the video in full screen and back, with its sound. The player controls stay usable with the keyboard and the screen reader. In Settings, Playback, you can choose to open the player already in full screen.
- In the player the arrows are enough: right and left 5 seconds, up and down the volume (also on the position bar). Alt+Right and Left arrow move by one minute.
- As on YouTube, in the player keys 1 to 9 go to 10%... 90% of the video and 0 to the start; in the main window Alt+1... Alt+0 (also in the Playback menu, "Go to a percentage").
Version 1.2.5, October 28, 2026
New
- Live stream chat: during a live stream YouTube has no comments but a chat, and Ctrl+M on a live stream opens the Live chat window. New messages arrive by themselves at the end of the list, without moving you from the line you are on; Super Chats and new members are marked, emoji are read as symbols. Ctrl+C copies a message.
- In the chat window, the "Read new messages" check box makes the screen reader read each message as soon as it arrives. Tube Player remembers the choice.
- In search, "Search in" also has Courses and Podcasts. Lines say what they are and how many lessons or episodes they have ("course by ..., 18 lessons"); Enter opens them like a playlist.
Fixes
- Searching "Everything", YouTube courses did not appear among the results: now they do, marked as courses.
- Podcast playlists now tell the number of episodes.
Version 1.2.4, October 27, 2026
Fixes
- On Windows 10 the YouTube engine might not get ready at startup, with the message "Reason: mpv.7z": the player file was downloaded but Windows 10 could not open it. Now Tube Player opens it by itself with 7-Zip, included in the program.
- When an engine or FFmpeg file is downloaded but cannot be opened, the message says so clearly instead of asking to check the connection.
Version 1.2.3, October 27, 2026
Faster
- Videos start sooner: each video is prepared in about 2 or 3 seconds instead of 4 or 5, and uses less than half the processor. If the fast way does not work for a video, the program uses the old one by itself.
- Channels, playlists (including those in your collections) and searches arrive much sooner: the first page is read directly from YouTube, in about half a second instead of 2. The following pages arrive as before while you scroll.
- While the program prepares videos in advance, lists come first; and when you enter a channel or a playlist or start a new search, the preparations of the previous list stop, so the new list arrives right away.
Fixes
- Scrolling through search results a video could appear twice (YouTube changes the order of results at every request): now it is not repeated.
- Views and subscribers in the millions are now correct ("2.7M" could be read as 27).
Version 1.2.2, October 27, 2026
New
- Chapters: in videos divided into chapters, the player has the "Video chapters" box (choose a chapter with the arrows and the video jumps there); Ctrl+Shift+Page Down and Page Up go to the next and previous chapter; Ctrl+T also says the chapter you are in; when the video enters a new chapter you hear a soft sound (the title can be spoken by turning it on in Settings, Announcements).
- Suggestions while you type a search: Down and Up arrows, in the search box, go through YouTube's suggestions (useful when you don't remember the exact name of a video or channel); Enter searches the one you are on, Esc puts your text back, and if you start typing again the letters go after your text. They can be turned off in Settings, Search.
- Settings, Playback: "At the end of a video close the player and go back to the list" (off by default).
- Settings, Search: "Video preparation in advance", to choose how many videos to prepare in advance: first ten (as always, the default), first five, only the one you stop on, or none. Fewer videos prepared means a calmer processor, but more waiting when you press Enter.
Fixes
- While the program prepared videos or downloaded, speech could stutter while moving through the results, because the processor was fully busy: now that work has a lower priority and the screen reader always comes first.
Version 1.2.1, October 26, 2026
New
- The player volume goes up to 200% (Volume bar and Alt+Up and Down arrows, in steps of 5): useful with videos recorded quietly. Above 100% videos that are already loud may crackle.
Fixes
- Settings, Announcements: Space changing the mode of an announcement made the list be read in a broken way and twice; now you hear the updated row only once.
Version 1.2.0, October 26, 2026
New
- Video comments (Ctrl+M, also from the player and the details): a tree with the replies inside each comment, the full text of the chosen comment, "Sort by" (top or newest) and "Load more comments". Enter on a comment that mentions a time ("3:45") plays the video from there; Ctrl+C copies it.
- Video transcript (Ctrl+E): all the speech line by line, each with its time; Enter plays the video from that line, "Search the text" shows only the lines with a word, "Copy all the text".
- Automatic skipping of sponsored parts, self-promotion and subscribe reminders marked by SponsorBlock users, with a sound and "Sponsor skipped" (Settings, Playback).
- Followed channels, without an account: Ctrl+Shift+S follows a channel; Ctrl+U opens the new videos of all followed channels (videos published after your last visit are "New", Shorts are marked); Ctrl+G the list of channels. At startup the program tells you if there are new videos. All in the new Followed menu.
- History (Ctrl+H): the watched videos, with when and where you stopped.
- Resume where you left off: a video left halfway starts again where you stopped ("Resuming from 12:34"; Alt+Home to start over).
- Even volume across videos (Settings, Playback): with YouTube's own measure, without slowing down start or seeking.
- Dubbed videos: they open with the audio in the chosen language (Settings, Playback, "Audio of dubbed videos"), and in the player the "Audio language" box changes language while playing.
- File, Export data and Import data: settings, collections, followed channels and history in one file, to take them to another computer.
- Ctrl+Shift+J speaks the download status, also from the player; after confirming a download, the program says "Download started" (or "Queued") right away.
- Playlist rows say how many videos they contain.
- The File and Playback menus show only the items that can be used.
Fixes
- Downloads with accented letters in the title could get a wrong path ("Open file" did not find the file), and some channel names came out garbled.
- On the player's position bar, Home and the arrows brought the video back to where it was when the key was released.
- After choosing a dubbed track, the next video could be silent.
- In the Downloads window a playlist row stayed on the previous video while the download went on.
- Playlists opened from a link (Ctrl+L) got stuck after the first video.
- In the Playback page of Settings the "How it works" box covered the Close button; some labels were cut off.
- Closing the program while it was downloading the engine the first time could leave the engine broken; now it repairs itself.
- Many small fixes found with a full check of the program (windows on top of each other, Alt+F4, continuous playback, missing messages).
Version 1.1.0, October 25, 2026
New
- In the results, for every video, when it was published ("3 days ago"); once the video has been prepared, the exact date ("published October 23, 2026").
- Next to "Search in" two new boxes: "Sort by" (relevance or view count) and "Uploaded" (last hour, today, this week, this month, this year), to find the latest videos on a topic.
- Settings, General: "YouTube content language", to choose the language of titles, descriptions and results (by default the program's language).
- Esc inside a channel, a playlist or a collection goes back to the previous list, like Backspace (if a video is playing, the first Esc stops it).
Fixes
- The videos of many Italian channels showed titles translated into English: now they come in the chosen language, also in the names of downloaded files.
- Esc pressed while a video's details were still loading said "No video playing": now it cancels opening the details.
Version 1.0.0, October 25, 2026
New
- First version of Tube Player: search YouTube for videos, channels and playlists, with "Search in" to choose what to search for; the list of results grows by itself when you reach the end.
- Channels and playlists like File Explorer folders: Enter to go inside, Backspace or the "Back to" button to go back; inside a channel Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 and Ctrl+3 for videos, playlists and live streams.
- The player with all its commands reachable with Tab: position, pause, forward and back, volume, speed, picture on or off, video details. The main keys work everywhere.
- Continuous playback with Ctrl+Enter, with next and previous video.
- The video details with Alt+Enter: date, description and chapters to start the video from.
- Video and audio downloads in many formats, also in the original format, with the downloads window (Ctrl+J).
- Collections: lists you make yourself with videos, channels and playlists (Ctrl+S to save, Ctrl+K to open them).
- Spoken announcements and sounds for everything, fully customizable shortcuts, three languages (Italian, English, Spanish).
Good to know
- The first time it starts, Tube Player downloads by itself from their official websites the engine it needs to read YouTube (yt-dlp, Deno and mpv) and keeps it up to date once a day. FFmpeg, needed for some downloads, is downloaded at the first download that needs it.
- This is the first version with automatic updates: from now on Tube Player tells you by itself when a new version is available.
